MEVA President Rob McClement recently wrote an article on the process of converting an ICE vehicle (internal-combustion-engine) to an EV (Electric Vehicle). It’s a subject he can speak authoritatively on; he’s one of a handful of Manitobans that has taken up the challenge of actually performing a conversion. Rob’s red ’96 Mazda Miata was one of the featured EV Conversion vehicles at this summer’s MEVAfest event at Assiniboine Park, along with several other excellent member conversions.

What motivates a person to convert an ICE vehicle? Rob states several factors, including environmental concerns, an alternative to gas, economics, to promote factory EVs and last but not least, it was a lot of fun!  Not surprisingly these statements appear to be something of a theme when asking other converters.
