October 2015 Meeting

Thursday, 29 October, 2015

Room E2-330,
University of Manitoba Engineering Building
15 Gilson Street

featuring:

Chelsea Taylor, Promotions Director,

2015-16 UMSAE Polar Bear Racing Formula Electric Team

Every year, the University of Manitoba Society of Automotive Engineers (UMSAE) Polar Bear Racing Formula Electric Team designs, builds and races an outstanding electric car. In the past couple of years, because so many U. of M. students have joined the Formula Electric team, UMSAE has become the largest university student chapter of SAE in the world! For years, MEVA members have admired the efforts of these U. of M. EV developers, and have been very happy to promote their accomplishments, at every opportunity. Understandably, the UMSAE Polar Bear Racing Formula Electric Team and their race car are perennial favourites at the Manitoba Electric Vehicle Association festival, MEVAfest.

The U. of M. Formula Electric Team repeatedly demonstrates that advancements in electric vehicle technology can and should be achieved right here, in Manitoba. Therefore, members of the Manitoba Electric Vehicle Association believe that the U. of M. Formula Electric Team team deserves a voice in MEVA, the association which advocates on behalf of all EV enthusiasts in this province. At the September, 2015 MEVA meeting, MEVA members voted overwhelmingly to invite the UMSAE Polar Bear Racing Formula Electric Team to become an official member organization of the Manitoba Electric Vehicle Association.

Andrew Kerr, UMSAE Polar Bear Racing Formula Electric Team Lead, and Chelsea Taylor, UMSAE Polar Bear Racing Formula Electric Promotions Director, will represent their team at this month’s MEVA meeting. Chelsea will tell us about the 2015-16 UMSAE Polar Bear Racing Formula Electric Team, and describe their process for creating a new and improved Formula Electric race car.
